Deeside and the surrounding countryside offers attractive villages, quiet rural roads, natural nature reserves, nature trails and a variety of activities for all. During the summer months there are frequent festivals and Highland Games where traditional Scottish events take place

There are numerous historical attractions along Royal Deeside. Woodland and riverside walks will allow you to witness the breathtaking scenery. Museums and art galleries are in abundance for the less energetic.

The Castle Trail

Many of the North East’s ancient fortresses and grand houses are within an easy distance of the Hotel. There are over 40 National Trust properties in the vicinity. Crathes, Drum and Craigievar Castles and Gardens are only a few miles from the Hotel.

The Whisky Trail

There are over 50 distilleries in the area and on The Whisky Trail visitors can join a tour of 6 working distilleries. The closest to the Banchory Lodge are Fettercairn and Royal Lochnagar.

The Victorian Heritage Trail

With Balmoral Castle only 40 miles from Banchory Lodge, the Victorian Heritage Trail explores the places and landscapes associated with Queen Victoria. Balmoral Castle opens it’s grounds to the public from April to July.

Fishing

The River Dee is one of the most celebrated salmon rivers in the world. The fishing season is March 1st to September 30th. Guests can walk across the lawn to watch anglers fish the hotel beat.

By prior arrangement, the hotel and other nearby beats can be rented daily or weekly. A ghillie will provide instruction in fly fishing and equipment can be hired locally.


Shooting

The glorious 12th of August starts the shooting season with the red grouse, native to Scottish hills. Arrangements can be made for parties of 6 – 10 guns on nearby estates. Rough and pheasant shooting is available by prior arrangement.

Golf

There are two 18 hole golf courses and a driving range within walking distance of the Hotel. There are almost 50 courses in the area and include a championship course, classic links, and hidden gems.
